Five steps – to make sure next time is the right time! (in French only)

If you’ve already tried to quit smoking without success, then you should try again.  Did you know that it takes people an average of two to three attempts before they are successful?  Here are a few simple tips to help make sure that next time is the right time.

Available resources

It’s not easy to overcome a tobacco addiction. Fortunately, there are a lot of resources for people who want to be free of tobacco. Here are some of them:

The iQuitnow (j’Arrête) helpline (1-866-527-7383)
This is a free service for people wishing to quit smoking. Smokers have access to specialists who can help them overcome their tobacco addiction. The service is available from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Mondays to Thursdays and from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Fridays. There is also a stop smoking website at www.iquitnow.qc.ca

Stop smoking centres
Most of Quebec’s CLSCs have stop smoking centres that offer a range of free services.  Smokers can meet with specialists – usually health sector workers – who will support them as they learn to live without tobacco.  Services are available throughout Québec.

The iPof website
The site is designed to appeal to kids.  Its simple, dynamic content helps those who want to quit smoking.

The Quit to Win challenge
Smokers are invited to quit smoking for six weeks, starting on March 1st.  They must register before that date.

Famille sans fumée
A smoke-free family is a family whose members – whether smokers and non-smokers – have decided to live in a smoke-free environment.  Why not join?  (The website is in French only.)

Preventing and reducing smoking
The following websites offer attractive content for kids who want to help prevent and reduce smoking.
